Peter surprised me for Christmas with a night booked at 3BlackSHEDS in Whitfield, Victoria. But after a big night the night before with friends, it was a very slow start to this mornings drive via Yea, to Whitfield. Craving a stop in Yarck at Bucks Country Bakehouse for one of their delicious chicken pies, only to find when we got to Yarck the bakery is closed on Wednesdays! Oh well, lucky for us Dindi Naturals Cafe, over the road was open for a quick bite to eat and back on the road, passing a very full Lake Eildon at Boonie Doon.

Our next stop along our journey was the Powers Lookout, for a quick photo stop. Here we met some Motor Bike riders asking for us to take a group photo of the guys. One of the crew told us about the Horn lookout at Mount Buffalo, being the best lookout spot he believed to be in Australia! A Big call, so guess what? This one was not to be missed on our trip of course!

3BlackSHEDS

We arrived in Whitfield 3BlackSHEDS at around 4pm, and where pleasantly surprised, as the Shed we where staying in was absolutely Stunning! The styling of the Shed was perfect in every way, and attention to detail was also on point, which I love! With a fresh loaf of local Milawa French bread laid out on the table, fresh breakfast supplies, bath products by the local Yarck shop Dindi Naturals, and gorgeous towels by Marimekko, bottles of local Pizzini wines for just in case! 6 Stars I give this accommodation.

Our little Shed for the night

Arriving in Whitfield at around 4pm and settling into our accommodation for the night, we then walked via the local Golf Course to the Whitfield Hotel for an early dinner booking. Lucky for us it was a warm evening, and got a table in the garden area which is just divine! Once again a really enjoyable dinner here, as its a favourite spot for us, owned by the Pizzini family, true country hospitality. 5 Stars Review

The next morning our breakfast was supplied by the Shed, with fresh farm eggs, bacon, tomato’s ect to cook for ourselves and enjoy the scenery from the deck. Our next call in was at the local Cafe/ Distillery Hobbleldehoy which has new owners since we where here last, for a coffee. The night before I looked up Booking.com, for somewhere to stay in Bright, luckily for this time of year we got a one night booking at The Riverbank Park Motel. So onwards to Bright, we stopped at Myrtleford, and found another very good country bakery serving home style pasties, a favourite treat of Peters.

While we where in Myrtleford Peter phoned an old friend living in the area,” Bushie” so off to pop in for a cup of tea and a look at the farm and their gorgeous bnb The Love Shack. We had a few years to catch up on, so a few hours later we checked into The Riverbank Motel in Bright. Then wandered down the street along the riverbank walk into Bright township. So many families in Bright at this time of the year, floating down the river and having a great summer time holiday. We found Billy Button Wines Cellar door, as Bushie had recommended, and had a glass of their wine and a cheese platter which was both very nice. Then we walked back over to the Bright Brewery, for a sneaky last drink over looking the river.

As the night was still young and we did not feel like eating, we made the decision to go up to watch the sunset at The Horn, on Mount Buffalo. So up the windy road we went, to the walk to the lookout spot. Lucky we where warned to take a jacket, as it was very cold! 3.2 degrees and windy!! The Climb to the top was pretty special just as the motor bike rider had said, with 360 degree views to the high country, looking out at all the mountains, such as Mount Buller, Mount Feathertop and Kosciusko in NSW. We where not the only crazy people up here tonight!

Our last morning from Bright we stopped for breakfast at the well known Café Fez, a Moroccan inspired Café/Shop in Myrtleford. And what a Shop it is! You could spend hours inside the shop searching for treasures from across the globe. The breakfast here is extremely popular for a very good reason, the food is delicious!

Back over the road from Cafe Fez to the bakery to take home some pasties for my parents. Our next quick stop at Milawa Mustards, for two bottles of their Mustard Salad dressing to take home.

Next stop Fowles Winery in Avenel to meet our old friends Lou and Bill for a long lunch, catching up with all the family news. Fowles Winery lunch is another favourite places of mine a must stop along the Hume Highway! The Restaurant food and wine is really superb, staff are super friendly and really lovely ambiance, overlooking the gardens. On the way out there is a gorgeous farm produce, gift and wine store to stock up. Fowles Wines labels are pretty special along with the wine too, I love their Lady’s that Shoot their Lunch label along with many other beautiful animal labels.

Another fabulous spur of the moment fun weekends away, catching up with old special friends, with Stunning Scenery along the way!
